Computer maintenance
In my 15 years of computer support and repair I have found that computer maintenance is the least performed task by users and usually for good reason. You have seen the commercials, you have seen the infomercials touting the bonuses and packages that are included with your purchase of a new computer system. Many of these purchases are also sold with one year, three year and even five year warranties. These warranties, although valuable, are not the end all for your caring and feeding of your personal computer (PC). Along with the purchase of a PC is the need to understand that a PC requires routine maintenance. Similar to your automobile maintenance your routine maintenance on your PC will ensure that your purchase is protected from premature wear and tear and that problems are detected before they become problems beyond repair.
Maintenance is key for optimal performance and ongoing security. Your PC can be vulnerable to attack by malicious software if left unchecked and properly maintained. Below is a list of the many steps of proper maintenance that should be performed every six months or at least once a year.
